Differences of Flanges

Almost in every construction, especially in industrial construction need some major pipe working. Now a day, pipes become one of the most essential parts of construction. If you say about some water work, petrochemical, gas, liquids and other things, then you have to think about the convey option. Pip is the great medium for this matter. Most of the people know about the flanges. It is the most common and crucial parts of pip working. It has various types of application. Following the application, there are many designs available. Some Flanges names are given below to discuss.

1.Stainless Steel Flanges
2.Carbon Steel Flanges
3.Alloy Steel Flanges
4.Nickel Alloy Steel Flanges
5.Duplex Steel Flanges
6.Super Duplex Steel Flanges
7.Copper Nickel Flanges
8.Inconel Flanges
9.Hastelloy Flanges
10.Monel Flanges
11.Alloy 20 Flanges, etc.

Every flange has separate rules and contribution according to the material and design as well. Many people like flanges for pip working because it makes the job easier than other tools. For using flanges you should know the basic differences of flanges. It will give you more advantage to do the work. Let’s discuss about any specific category like Slip On Flanges and weld neck flanges. Slip on flange vs weld neck flanges are most common confusion.

1.Slip on Flanges: This flange has some fabricated application. This flange also knows as SO flange. The basic design of this flange is the outer diameter is slightly smaller than the outer diameter. For the connection you need some fillet weld which can attach directly. But the flange must be welded top and bottom. There are various types of standard are available for these flanges like ASTM A105, ASTM A182, etc. this type of flanges is made of only three types of materials and they are.

i.Stainless Steel
ii.Carbon Steel
iii.Alloy Steel, etc.

This flange is highly customizable. Generally the common size of these flanges starts with 1/2 " to 24” but the sealing is 60”. There are types of face are available. One is RF and other is RTJ. The pressure rating of this flange is class 150 to class 2500. There are lots of advantages of using this flange. Some are given below.

i.Installation Cost: The installation cost is lower than installing other flange.

ii.Leaking proof: Some flanges can leak easily, but this flange is high leaking proof.

2.Weld Neck Flange: This is also other types of flange which used for relocating the stress of the pipe. This flange also available in 3 types of material like stainless steel, carbon and alloy. ASTM 105 and ASTM 182 are the basic standard for this flange. This size is starting from ½ " which end with 48”. If you want to buy this weld neck flange then you will find two shapes of this flange and they are.

i.Reducing Weld Neck Flange
ii.Long Weld Neck Flange

Now you will understand the differences of various types of flanges and uses, especially Slip On Flanges and Weld Neck Flange.
